When the knitting was just for fun!

I knitted this set as a present for the 1-year-old daughter of my friend.

To knit a strawberry-shaped hat for a kid, you’ll need:

•    Red yarn
•    Green yarn
•    4mm knitting needles
•    Scissors
•    Tapestry needle
•    Stitch marker

Here are the steps to follow:

Cast on 80 stitches with the red yarn.

Join in the round, being careful not to twist the stitches, and place a stitch marker to mark the beginning of the round. Knit every round until the hat

measures 15cm from the cast-on edge. Decrease as follows:

Round 1: K6, K2tog repeat to end of round.

Round 2: Knit all stitches.

Round 3: K5, K2tog repeat to end of round.

Round 4: Knit all stitches.

Round 5: K4, K2tog repeat to end of round.

Round 6: Knit all stitches.

Round 7: K3, K2tog repeat to end of round.

Round 8: Knit all stitches.

Round 9: K2, K2tog repeat to end of round.

Round 10: Knit all stitches.

Round 11: K1, K2tog repeat to end of round.

Round 12: Knit all stitches.

Round 13: K2tog repeat to end of round.

Cut the red yarn leaving a long tail, thread it through the tapestry needle and weave it through the remaining stitches. Pull tight and fasten off.

With the green yarn, pick up and knit 60 stitches around the base of the hat.

Knit every round for 4cm.

Decrease as follows:

Round 1: K5, K2tog repeat to end of round.

Round 2: Knit all stitches.

Round 3: K4, K2tog repeat to end of round.

Round 4: Knit all stitches.

Round 5: K3, K2tog repeat to end of round.

Round 6: Knit all stitches.

Round 7: K2, K2tog repeat to end of round.

Round 8: Knit all stitches.

Round 9: K1, K2tog repeat to end of round.

Round 10: Knit all stitches.

Round 11: K2tog repeat to end of round.

Cut the green yarn leaving a long tail, thread it through the tapestry needle and weave it through the remaining stitches. Pull tight and fasten off.

 

Weave in any loose ends and your strawberry-shaped hat is ready for your little one to wear!
